jett:

then why did rainbow friend’s sound just explode like a disco ball? yesterday we were making a calming lullaby!

rex:

you simultaneously activated freddy’s deep bass and among us’s high-pitched imposter shriek!

jett:

but the system shouldn’t allow that!

rex:

apparently, it does now. i think we forgot to disable huggy wuggy’s ‘singing’ mode.

jett:

what? huggy wuggy has a ‘singing’ mode? i only used it for the ‘cuddle’ sound effect.

rex:

(mimicking a choked, raspy sound from the device)

that’s not a sound layer. it’s a... mood.

(the door suddenly bangs. a high-pitched voice is heard from outside.)

neighbor:

(from behind the door)

what are you two doing in there!? the potted plant outside is dancing! i said the plant!

rex:

(whispering)

i think the calming lullaby switching to energetic mode lifted the plant’s mood.

jett:

what do we do? is there no off button?

rex:

(pointing to a button on the device)

that button... adds a new character.

jett:

don't you dare press it! who knows who it'll add?

rex:

(his hand twitches)

too late.

(a robotic, harsh voice comes from the device.)

new voice:

system.upgraded. zombie-drummer module active.

rex:

zombie-drummer? that wasn't a character!

jett:

maybe we added a new mood. after the potted plant’s mood...

(a half-decayed but well-dressed figure holding drumsticks leaps through the window. it's the 'zombie-drummer'.)

zombie-drummer:

(in a rhythmic, deep voice)

more. beats!

jett:

(shocked)

but he’s real!

rex:

(throwing his hands up)

how cinematic! we need an escape plan!

zombie-drummer:

(eyes fixed on jett and rex)

the. drum. beat. is. linked. to. your. heart. rate.

(the zombie-drummer starts sprinting toward jett and rex.)

rex:

jett! use huggy wuggy in cuddle mode! maybe that'll slow him down!

jett:

me? no! you try it! you started this!

rex:

(a brief hesitation, then yells)

it wasn't in the contract!

(just as the zombie-drummer is about to pounce, rex frantically grabs the 'rhythm mixer 5000' device and throws it at him.)

(the device hits the zombie-drummer's head and a new sound effect is triggered: 'newly discovered secret sound: old cat purr'.)

(the zombie-drummer suddenly stops, his eyes widen, the drumsticks fall, and he begins to purr loudly.)

jett:

(gasping)

a cat... purr?

rex:

i guess... the zombie-drummer's only weakness was a cute little meow!

(the door bangs hard again.)

neighbor:

(voice even angrier)

now i hear a cat purring inside! don't you dare touch my vegetation!

jett:

(her eyes gleam)

wait! this is new! i wonder if the neighbor’s voice would create a sound layer on the device?

rex:

(grinning)

if it does... i think we just found the perfect imposter for the most energetic song.

(jett and rex grin at each other, then both run toward the device simultaneously.)
