After a couple days of not running (due to the heatwave in the UK, and being sensible and listening to my body – check out @kel_ryder7 for more details), I put my trainers on today.
At lunch time I went for a 2 mile run, my old familiar route to test out how it’s going, well I last ran that route on 14 June and it took me 20.33… so that 18.02 today is an epic achievement! I am definitely motivated by the improvements I see happening as my consistent approach to training pays off!
Also had another improvement on my VO2 max today! Almost back to my previous all time high (think this was 52!).
As I’m behind on my weekly mileage I decided to do my intervals session I should have done on Monday and didn’t after work. Today I was supposed to do –
10 minute warm up
1 min walk rest the
1 min max effort / 1 min recover x 4
10 minute easy run
1 min max effort / 1 min recover x 4
8 minute cool down
However, due to something happening mid run I had to ditch part way through my second set of 4 (I’m ok nothing to do with me). I still covered good distance in less than 34 minutes and my first set of intervals were exactly to the pace I had planned. I’ll look forward to doing this session properly again – will aim to do this session in its entirety next week, as I’m keen to do the session and see how it feels (any excuse to dodge the hills interval sessions!).
Happy that with what I’ve got planned for the rest of the week I can get my mileage back on track despite the heatwave set back!
